“Petlites” Dance Ensemble – 20 Years of History, Dreams and Inspiration
The “Petlites” Dance Ensemble was founded in 2006 at the former “Alexander Georgiev – Kodzhakafaliyata” Home for Children in Burgas by its former resident, Georgi Dimitrov, who remains the director of the ensemble to this day.
Initially, the ensemble consisted exclusively of children living at the home. Gradually, the group grew and children from families joined as well. The main idea was to help children find their path through art, develop their talents, and build relationships and integrate more easily into society.
Over the years, “Petlites” have made more than 300 independent appearances and have collaborated with a number of popular Bulgarian performers.
In 2009, Georgi Dimitrov published the book Touching the Dream, in which he tells his personal story – how he managed to stay true to himself, build his own life and family, and about his encounters with different people, the challenges he faced, his successes, and everything that ultimately led to the creation and development of “Petlites.”
The New Production – The Story of the “Father of Burgas”
This year, “Petlites” present their newest production, dedicated to one of the most significant and noble figures in the history of Burgas – Alexander Georgiev – Kodzhakafaliyata, known as the “Father of Burgas.”
His story began far from wealth and fame. As a child, he lived in the village of Zidarovo, in the Burgas region. He grew up as a village boy, lost his father, and was not given the opportunity to attend school. Years later, together with his brothers, he built one of the largest businesses in Burgas and became an exceptionally wealthy man. But Kodzhakafaliyata’s true wealth was not measured by what he owned, but by what he gave.
Throughout his life, he never stopped helping people in need and donating money and property to institutions, churches, and municipalities. Despite his enormous wealth, he lived modestly – in a small room with his dog, without displaying his possessions.
Before his death, he donated land to poor people who had no homes and no means to build them. He donated funds and property for the establishment of a home for the children of soldiers, where they could be cared for and educated. He supported churches, municipalities, and people in need, leaving behind the example of a man who understood that the true meaning of wealth lies in sharing it with others.
The Message
With this production, “Petlites” celebrate 20 years since their establishment, while also delivering a much more important message.
In our fast-paced everyday lives, where material possessions often take center stage, the production brings us back to simple human values – kindness, compassion, charity, humanity, and the willingness to help others.
The story of Alexander Georgiev – Kodzhakafaliyata reminds us that sometimes our greatest wealth is not what we have, but what we are able to give.
“Petlites” want to remind every member of the audience that small things, kind gestures, and human connection are more valuable than the rush of modern life and material possessions.
